From history to romance to art, Venice has a ton to offer which is why it’s a must stop on your Europe itinerary. Hotels and business owners have caught on to Venice’s rising popularity and have likewise adjusted their prices. Choosing the proper hotel can be crucial to your budget and overall enjoyment of Venice. Whether you’re looking for convenience to tourist attractions or the train station, or a quiet hotel in a residential neighborhood, there are hotels in Venice for you. Many of which won’t break the bank.

Near the Train Station

Many visitors want to hop off the train, drop their bags, and start exploring. Venice has plenty of hotels within footsteps of the train station. Hotel Abbazia is conveniently located near both the train station and a Vaporetto stop. As an added bonus, the hotel is located in a former refectory offering a sense of Venice’s religious history.

Just over the Scalzi Bridge is Hotel Antiche Figure that offers travelers a spot close to the train station (albeit with a slightly more difficult walk) and a view of the Grand Canal at and affordable rate. Guests enjoy spacious rooms in a quiet neighborhood still within the vicinity of must-see sites like Scuola Grande di San Rocco and quaint restaurants.

Proximity to St Mark’s Square

The old adage in Venice is the closer to St Mark’s Square, the more expensive a hotel. While this is the case in most instances, there are a few exceptions to the rule. Hotel Paganelli is one of them. Besides its proximity to sites like Doges Palace (Bridge of Sighs), the hotel boasts spectacular views of the Grand Canal. Plus, it’s far enough outside the perimeter of Saint Mark’s Square that restaurants are affordable.

Another option is Hotel Città di Milano. It’s located about halfway between Saint Mark’s and Rialto Bridge and provides guests easy access to the best of Venice. The building itself is a sixteenth century palace adding extra historical appeal to your stay. The hotel is a little hard to find, but that’s just Venice.

The Romance of Rialto

A defining moment of your trip will be standing on the Rialto Bridge and basking in the beauty of the Grand Canal. A stay at Hotel Locanda Ovidius allows you to relive that experience over and over. Don’t forget to browse the fish market at the foot of the Rialto Bridge. Explore plenty of food stalls selling everything from fresh produce to artisan cheese to the best in Italian wine.

Enjoy Views of Venice from Giudecca

There isn’t much “local” culture left in Venice. Most of the former residents have been expatriated to the mainland due to rising costs. Giudecca, across the canal from Venice’s main island, still offers a touch of that local feel. Domina Home Giudecca, located in a converted convent, is a great choice featuring stellar views of Venice across the canal. St Mark’s is just a 10 minute water bus ride over the canal.
